Bill Jones, buckle bye, 2015, HD video. 4:03.

buckle up is an album of seven 2- 4 minute music videos (all 2014). The album recalls my multiple image photographic narratives from the late 1970s, such as Les Crimes de l’Amour seen in the detail below and in the linked gallery.

Both series, photographic and video, still and moving, rely on two cinematic camera conventions, the pan and the tracking shot. Both series, 30 years and an internet apart, challenge the camera’s objectivity  by using the city as a structural grid on which to string their evocations.

The idea of a “concept” album of music videos comes out of my 15-year career as a VJ in clubs and music venues.  Each video on the album is a single VJ performance in which I “scratch” or otherwise manipulate a single shot or “loop.”  Each song on buckle up is a block long.
